noir game
The noir theme in games includes a world of light and darkness where most of the action takes place in grey areas. murder and corruption is also a main part of the noir theme
a example of a noir theme game is max Payne. the reason of this is because of the funny metaphors fast paced shooting and graphic novel style cutscenes
The term noir was originally used in France after ww2 to describe American thriller or detective film in the 1940s and 50s. French critics coined the term noir film in reference to the low keyed lighting used to enhance these dramas stylistically. the term would not become common in international
Noir is usually used to create a moral, ambiguity and a fantastic outlook on alienation from society
I would try to base my game on L.A Noire as the game is based of the noir theme and but the plan for my game is similar I would like for my character to be a detective which is solving a murder mystery.
The color theme will be white and black just to keep it simple so I can focus on other things.
L.A. Noire is quite a popular game this can be seen in the reviews.
The movie Batman 2022 is classed as a neo noir which means it takes aspects from noir films. from the voiceover narration to constant rainfall to a subversively sympathetic femme fatale The Batman adheres to many familiar tropes and hallmarks from classic film noirs.
The game mechanics I would like to include in my game are to inspect items/objects or clues. the basic ones like walking, running and jumping interrogations of suspects/.witnesses to discover information
This would be similar to the mechanics of L.A. Noire where you will be given choices to ask certain questions, minigames, lockpicking newspaper endgame correct or false
The goal of my game will to be to solve a simple murder case that i will try to make easy for the player to accomplish
L.A. Noire
Game idea: A stationary shooter which will be arcade style where you have to survive as long as possible holding out against waves of police officers. the game will be in first person and if you get hit by the officers you will lose a life the aim of the game is to shoot the officers before they shoot you this will reward you with points. you will be able to move between cover to avoid getting shot but the cover will destroy. the style will be black and white. The will be stylized in the style of an arcade game. the base colors will be greyscale. In the game there will be typewriter looking text which will be used for the score. The health aspect of the game will be the game will use a x as the health system. There will be a deep contrast between light and dark.
There will be 3 stages the first level/stage will be indoors which will include barrels, crates, knocked over tables ,limited access points and lots of cover. The 2 level/stage will include being out of the main street and this will include hiding behind cars, they will be durable but there is multiple angles you can be shot from, trams rolling by act as moving. level 3/stage will be underground metro style substation. The train will be going past in the level and there will be a lot of places for the police officers can appear from, limited cover.

Things I learnt about while making this game is that to give myself more time to create models as some can take longer than others to make like the train I tried to make which I realized would take too long so I had to get a placeholder for to use in the game.
This is the tree i started with originally I started by putting a cylinder and stretching it out
I then applied edge loops to stretch it out and make it look more like a tree trunk as seen in the image below
i made the trunk a bit wider at the bottom and added a sphere which smoothed down and manipulated to make it look like the leaves of the tree
i also added more smaller leaves on the side for a bit of realism

To create the bench i first started with crating some squares and stretched them up to look like supports for the bench. i also changed the color of the squares to the color of a bench by adding a new material onto the square and then changing the materials color to brown.
Here i added arm rests to the bench and under supports to connect the posts together to make it look more realistic. while making the arm rests i used the extrude tool to curve the arm rests down to look more like a bench you would see. The extrude tool is used to manipulate objects to make them curve and transform in shape.
here i added the seat to sit on and added some more supports on the bottom and the back
I have also designed a bench to use which could be recolored to different shades of brown to act as if there different models
in the pictures below i tried to design a a train which didn't go how i wanted and didn't have enough time to complete it so i had to get one online just to use in the meantime
i found a train off the website turbosquid.com which i downloaded and am using as a place holder for my game. because the modelling of the train was quite difficult to do

Gameplay: The game consists of spawning in the middle of the map while enemies begin to Spawn in from buildings around the map. The player has cover they can use to avoid getting shot. The game will have a point system and health system. The point system will award the player 100 points for killing a enemy

What went well:
The things that went well in this project for me personally was designing the models for the game i believe that the models were well designed and had quite a lot of detail in them. another thing that went well was the ideas for the project which were well presented by all of the team members.
What went wrong:
Things that went wrong was designing my train i was going to do as i was running out of time and it was hard to create which i then got a placeholder to use. overall in the project time was a issue most of the team didn't get what they wanted to do done most of things we wanted in the game are on the Trello but there was a lot we didn't get done.
Final thoughts/What was Learned
in this project i learned to work with people who i would not normally work with i also learned how to work to a strict deadline which is quite hard but i need to improve with the speed of designing models
